Vlade Divac Says Shaq Wasn’t Talented, “Just Strong”

Well, here’s your shade for the day.

In a story that appeared on SacTown Royalty, Vlade Divac, newly installed vice president of basketball and franchise operations for the Sacramento Kings, talked about how talented DeMarcus Cousins is with some reporters. And, in the process, managed to throw shade at one-time rival Shaquille O’Neal, who is a minority owner of the Sacramento Kings.

“Shaq wasn’t talented, he was just strong,” Divac said. “I was talented but I wasn’t strong. Shaq was dominant. Shaq was one of the most dominant players ever, but when you talk about talent, I think DeMarcus is a way far from everybody.”

Whether it was intentional or not, Divac basically categorized as Shaq as a huge guy who got over because of his size. However, Shaq wasn’t just a large oaf who lumbered around on the court. He had excellent footwork and developed his game around the rim. Sure, he was a monster but what good is the size if you don’t know how to use it. Surely, Divac is aware since Shaq and his former Laker team trounced the Kings out of the playoffs on three occasions.

We get that Divac was simply trying to shower Cousins with praise. But he could have left Shaq out of this.
