Should The Browns Agree To Appear On HBO’s “Hard Knocks” This Summer?

The Cleveland Browns are far from the most stable team in the NFL right now. In fact, you could make the argument that, at the moment, they’re one of the least stable teams in the league when it comes to knowing what direction they’re going to go in in the immediate future. As recently as a year ago, it looked like the Browns were on the up and up. They had a solid defense in place. They had a new coach Mike Pettine who was going to put them back into the playoffs. And they had Johnny Manziel coming in to help them stabilize their offense. At least, that was the thought.

Last season was a bit of a train wreck, though. Manziel didn’t take over as the starting quarterback until the end of the season. He didn’t play well in relief of Brian Hoyer, who had a strong start to the year before fizzling out towards the end. And about two months ago, Manziel checked himself into rehab to get help. So as of right now, it’s unclear what the Browns are going to do with their quarterback situation next season and there’s a chance that they could be really bad for at least another year. So it doesn’t seem like anyone would want to watch them on HBO‘s Hard Knocks this summer, right?

Wrong. Even though they’re probably not going to be great next season, the Browns have a lot of compelling storylines working in their favor right now. From Manziel Mania to Pettine’s second act, they have what it takes to entertain America for one hour every week during their 2015 NFL training camp. So there’s a chance that HBO might ask them to anchor their NFL show. And if they do, the Browns should definitely say yes.

We know what you’re thinking: Why? Why should the dysfunctional Browns pull back the curtain and show the world how poorly their franchise is run? The truth is that they should do it because the Browns don’t have a great reputation around the league. There are also a lot of question marks surrounding their team. So by appearing on Hard Knocks, they will be able to show everyone what’s changed in Cleveland and prove that they have what it takes to one day be a true NFL title contender. Their season of Hard Knocks wouldn’t always be pretty. But if the Browns used it properly, it could work to their advantage.

Will you watch Hard Knocks if the Browns welcome HBO into their training camp this summer?
