Did Steph Curry Just Seal The Deal & Win The NBA MVP Award?

Prior to last night’s Golden State Warriors/Portland Trail Blazers game, the thought was that Steph Curry was leading the race for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award. The race was still super close with James Harden, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis all in the mix. But Curry—who was a shoo-in to break his own record for the most three-pointers in a single NBA season—was leading the pack because of all the success his team has enjoyed this season. They’re the best team in the NBA and appear to be headed towards a deep playoff run this spring. And Curry may have just sealed the deal and won the MVP award with his masterful performance against Portland last night.

We shouldn’t be surprised by anything that Curry does anymore. But against the Blazers, Curry pulled out all the stops and proved why he deserves the MVP award. He scored 45 points, hit 17 of the 23 shots he took, added eight three-pointers to break his NBA record, and, most importantly, guided the Warriors to another win. Even though they’ve already locked up the top spot in the NBA’s Western Conference, that last part is important because it may be Curry’s strongest case for the MVP award. He has helped his team win—a lot—this season and, while he’s certainly had some help in that department thanks to guys like Klay Thompson, there’s no doubt Golden State would be way worse off if Curry weren’t on the team.

With that in mind, we think Curry has pretty much guaranteed that he’s going to win the MVP award this season. You could still make a case for guys like Harden—who told NBA.com, “I am the MVP,” yesterday—or Westbrook, who has put up a ridiculous number of triples-doubles this year. But Curry has been nothing short of amazing this season and deserves to be recognized for it. So him winning the MVP award is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point.

Do you agree with us? Should Curry win the MVP award, or is someone else more deserving?
