Are Kevin Durant & The Thunder Going To Make A Serious Title Run After What Happened To Them This Season?

The 2014-15 NBA season wasn’t supposed to end the way that it did for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and Serge Ibaka were supposed to lead the Thunder all the way to the 2015 NBA Finals and win their first championship together. But things didn’t turn out that way. Because instead of making a deep playoff run, injuries to Durant, Westbrook, and Ibaka prevented them from making the postseason. So instead of celebrating, the Thunder are going to be left to wonder “What if…?” for the next four or five months. And yesterday, Durant admitted that he’s “pissed” about what happened this year.

“I’m definitely pissed,” he said. “I heard a lot of stuff during this time I’ve been injured…Definitely pissed. Can’t wait until the first game [next season].”

Hopefully, things will go better for the Thunder next season. During the offseason, Durant is expected to let his latest foot injury heal and get back into game shape. Westbrook is expected to continue to improve as a player, which is scary considering how well he played this year. And the Thunder as a whole should get better because, as a result of them missing the playoffs, they will have a lottery pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. So there is a silver lining to their disastrous 2014-15 season. If nothing else, they’re going to come back better than ever next season.

Will it lead them to a title, though? The NBA‘s Western Conference is still going to be just as tough as ever with the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and, of course, San Antonio Spurs coming back with strong rosters. So the Thunder are going to need to do everything in their power to do the same. That starts with Durant getting healthy and it ends with the Thunder adding one or two more pieces to their lineup to put them back in the championship conversation.

They might not ultimately win the title next year. But a pissed-off Durant will give them a better chance than ever. And we can’t wait to see what he brings to the table.
