The 90′s was arguably the golden age of hip-hop, and the decade takes center stage in the new much-buzzed-about coming-of-age comedy, Dope. The film tells the story of Malcolm (played by Shameik Moore), a self-proclaimed “geek” who’s growing up and trying to survive in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him and his friends into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.

Dope was a favorite at the Sundance Film Festival, and was produced in part by Sean “Diddy” Combs and Pharrell Williams. The film also stars Kiersey Clemons, Tony Revolori, A$AP Rocky, Chanel Iman, Forest Whitaker, and Zoë Kravitz. Dope premieres in theaters June 19. Check out the trailer below.
