Filipinos Are Being Asked To Shut Off Major Appliances During The Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao Fight

When Manny Pacquiao gets into the ring to fight Floyd Mayweather on Saturday night, everyone in the Philippines is going to be watching. And when we say everyone, we mean everyone. Just about every single person in the entire country supports Pacquiao and is interested in watching him fight Mayweather. So people are going to be gathered around their TV sets ready to rumble when they fight starts. That is, they’re going to be gathered around them…as long as power outages don’t prevent them from doing it.

Apparently, there are going to be so many people watching the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight that Rante Ramos, an officer at the Palawan Electric Cooperative power company, issued a statement this week urging Filipinos to turn off their major appliances during the fight. From air conditioners to washing machines to refrigerators, he wants everything shut off. Because if all of those appliances are left on and all of the country’s TVs are tuned into the fight, there’s a very real chance that the power could be lost in certain segments of the Philippines. It’d be a huge hassle for anyone looking to watch the Fight of the Century.

“If it is just for the Pacquiao fight, let us just leave electric fans and TVs on,” he said. “We have waited so long for this, and now that it will happen…it is unacceptable not to have the opportunity to watch it.”

How crazy is that? Make sure you think about it tonight when you’re tuned into the fight. There are some people in this world who are so desperate to watch it that they’re literally shutting down all of the other aspects of their life and focusing on nothing but the fight. If that doesn’t prove just how important the fight is, we don’t know what will.
