Should The Clippers Play Chris Paul Against The Rockets Tonight Despite His Hamstring Injury?

The Clippers have a big decision to make prior to Game 3 of their playoff series against the Rockets tonight. It’s a decision that could very well decide the outcome of their entire season. They have to decide whether or not to allow Chris Paul to play. He suffered a pretty serious hamstring injury during Game 7 of the Clippers’ playoff series against the Spurs last Saturday night. And ever since then, he’s been doing everything possible to get back out onto the court. It doesn’t sound like his hamstring, which is strained, is completely healed yet, though. So should they play him…or not?

On the surface, it’s an easy decision to make. Of course the Clippers should let CP3 suit up if he says he’s ready to go tonight. They need him out on the court in order to win the series against the Rockets. So there really shouldn’t even be a debate about this. Er, right? Thing is, hamstring injuries are tricky. There’s a chance that, even if CP3 is feeling close to 100 percent tonight, he could go out and make his hamstring injury even worse. In fact, he could end up tearing his hamstring if he tries to come back too soon and, if he does that, he’ll end up having to miss the rest of the playoffs because of it. So the Clippers are going to have to be very, very cautious when it comes to playing CP3.

Unfortunately, there’s really no right answer for the Clippers. If they do play CP3, they’ll be putting him at risk for further injury and possibly limiting his playing time in the playoffs moving forward. But if they don’t play him, they could lose Game 3 and give the home-court advantage that they gained by winning Game 1 of the series in Houston back to the Rockets. And then, if CP3 isn’t ready to go in Game 4, they could find themselves falling even further behind in the series, which could make CP3′s eventual return a moot point. So as of right now, they’re damned if they do play CP3 tonight and damned if they don’t.

What do you think the Clippers should do—play Chris Paul or sit him? Either way, we’re glad we aren’t the ones who have to make the decision.
