Elise Neal Dishes On New Season Of Hollywood Divas And Leading Ladies Of Color On TV

Veteran actress Elise Neal is keeping busy these days. The Memphis, Tennessee native just finished doing a play in Dallas, is working on a new project called Timeless that she created and co-wrote, and is prepping for season 2 of Hollywood Divas.

I recently caught up with Elise to get the inside “scoop” on when the new season of Hollywood Divas will premiere, and she told me that we can expect it at some point this summer. “We’re at the end of it. We’ve completed most of season two – only have a day left of filming and some pickup shots, so it’s already in the can,” she said.

“Hopefully coming out a little earlier this time; they’re saying July dates will be given to us soon, and it’ll be back out in the summer.”

During our chat, Elise also shared her thoughts on whether or not she thinks the current influx of leading ladies of color on television is a passing fad. “Well I’ll tell you one thing about Hollywood that I learned a long time ago – if the numbers are good, it doesn’t become a fad anymore, it becomes a necessity. So now you’ve got shows like Empire that are topping the top tier shows on TV. Not just the top African American shows on TV, but Empire is the number one show on television,” she explained.

“It has basically, finally after I don’t know how many years, dethroned other shows in the number one spot like Modern Family, and all these other shows. And then Hollywood has no choice then to take notice and say, oh my goodness, we need to get on this train. And I think that train is going to go on for a long time as long as we keep winning in the numbers slot.”
