Christian Audigier, the French fashion designer responsible for popularizing the Von Dutch and Ed Hardy brands in the early 2000s, has died after battling cancer.

Christian began working in fashion when he was 14-years-old, and after moving to NYC in his early 20s, the Avignon, France native worked with brands like Guess, Levis, Diesel, American Outfitters and Bisou Bisou. Over the years, Christian accumulated a $250 million fortune from an empire consisting of various fashion brands, a nightclub, a line of wine and television appearances.

The 57-year-old was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, the same bone cancer that affected Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, in January. A spokesperson from Iconix, the company that represents Ed Hardy, told Page Six in a statement, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Christian Audigier, the business innovator who found tattoo artist, Ed Hardy and transformed his artwork into the iconic brand. Although, Christian had not been involved in the Ed Hardy brand in recent years his presence will be greatly missed.”
