I am so excited about the live version of The Wiz that NBC is putting together, and even more excited now that Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige have been added to the cast!! Reportedly, the Queen will take on the role of The Wiz, while Mary will play Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West. According to Deadline.com:

Queen Latifah plays The Wiz, the mysterious and powerful wizard who holds the keys to the Emerald City, but whose metamorphosis from ordinary to extraordinary is itself a hoax. She rose to her lofty position after being transported by accident to Oz in a hot air balloon during a snowstorm. Blige will play Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West, who holds sway over the Winkies and the Winged Monkeys that do her bidding.

Beyonce is in talks to play Glinda the Good Witch, according to US Weekly, and legendary R&B singer and Broadway performer Stephanie Mills, who shot to superstardom when she played Dorothy in the Broadway version of The Wiz in the 70s, will play Auntie Em. Producers are still on the hunt for an unknown teenager to portray Dorothy in this latest adaptation of the production.

The Wiz Live! will be executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (The Sound of Music Live!, Peter Pan Live!) and directed by Kenny Leon. Pivotal scenes from the production. like the flying monkeys and the tornado, will be orchestrated by Cirque Du Soleil Theatrical!!! It is going to be AMAZING!!

The Wiz Live airs Thursday, December 3 on NBC!!
