Gabourey Sidibe Claps Back At Critics Of Empire Love Scene

When I sat down to watch Empire last week, I was somewhat tickled to see Gabourey Sidibe‘s character Becky engaged in a rooftop love scene. I say tickled because it’s very rare that we see a woman of Gabourey’s size in a love scene, but big girls need love too, so why not??

While I got a kick out of the scene and said a silent cheer for big girls everywhere, others were not as nice. Almost immediately after the love scene made it’s way onto our television screens, it was all anyone talked about on social media, and a majority of the comments weren’t so nice.

As she has done so many times in the past whenever she’s made the subject of jokes because of her appearance, Gabourey clapped back at her critics in the classy but shady way she’s become known for. “Also, yes. I, a plus sized, dark-skinned woman, had a love scene on primetime television,” she wrote in a blog for Entertainment Weekly recapping the episode.

“I keep hearing that people are ‘hating’ on it. I’m not sure how anyone could hate on love but that’s okay. You may have your memes. Honestly, I’m at work too busy to check Twitter anyway. #Booked.”

And with that, all of the critics can take an entire stadium of seats!!
