Are Any NFL Teams Actually Going To Consider Giving Ray Rice Another Chance?

To help launch their new Fox Sports 1 TV show, TMZ Sports caught up with Ray Rice and his wife Janay outside of a gym in Connecticut recently. Rice has been working out almost every day at that gym and others around the country in the hopes of making a return to the NFL at some point this season. Even though he missed all of last year due to the awful domestic violence incident that he was involved in in early 2014, Rice is hopeful that some NFL team is going to get desperate enough to want to sign him. At least, that’s what he told TMZ Sports:

Is that really going to happen, though? It’s clear that both Ray and Janay have moved on from what happened to them and are ready to resume their lives. But unfortunately, it’s not that simple for NFL teams. If a team wanted to sign Rice, they would need to take all of the baggage that comes along with him. They would also need to answer questions—lots and lots of questions—about what signing Rice means. Does it mean that the organization doesn’t take domestic violence seriously? Does it mean that the organization thinks Rice’s future is bright enough to overlook his past? Does it mean the organization is putting football ahead of social issues? Bless whichever head coach would be tasked with answering all of those questions and more.

It’s why we just can’t see Rice making a comeback. Had he played well during the 2013-14 NFL season and given NFL teams a reason to believe he could be an elite running back right now, then he might get an opportunity. But the Dallas Cowboys are getting killed in the media at the moment for signing Greg Hardy and continuing to play him, despite the damning photos that Deadspin published of his ex-girlfriend last week which show the injuries she sustained during a domestic violence incident involving Hardy. So with all of that going on, how could any team take a serious look at Rice? It just doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen.

Do you think Ray Rice deserves another chance in the NFL? Or is his career pretty much over?
