Did Blake Griffin Just Compromise The Clippers’ Season By Punching A Team Employee?

Late last month, Blake Griffin went down with a torn quadriceps muscle that has kept him on the sidelines ever since. Despite this, the Los Angeles Clippers have managed to go 11-3 in his absence, and even though they haven’t played many good teams during that stretch, they have held their own in the tough Western Conference. The thought was, once Griffin came back and was healthy, they would be ready to make a serious run towards the NBA Playoffs and quietly turn themselves into a team that could contend for a spot in the NBA Finals. But…so much for that?

With Griffin’s quad injury nearly healed, he just suffered another injury, and this one was reportedly sustained due to his own dumb actions. According to ESPN, Griffin punched a Clippers equipment manager several times inside a restaurant in Toronto on Sunday night after the Clippers’ loss to the Raptors and then proceeded to continue to hit him once the two stepped outside. In the process, he reportedly broke his right hand and will need to sit out for several more weeks to let that injury heal.

The injury doesn’t necessarily mean that the Clippers will slip significantly in the playoff race. After all, they do have Chris Paul on their team, and they do have more than enough firepower to continue winning without Griffin. But at this stage of his career, we have to wonder what in the world Griffin was thinking. What could have compelled him to punch a member of his own team’s equipment staff? It seems like a silly, immature thing to do, and it could end up costing his team dearly.

Hopefully, Griffin is OK and won’t miss an extended period of time. But if he does, it sounds like he will have no one to blame but himself.
