#SadAffleck Meme Sweeps Web After Horrible Batman v. Superman Reviews

The reviews are in, and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is shaping up to be one of the biggest blockbuster bombs of all time. Reviewers repeatedly describe it as joyless and incoherent, and those are some of the nicer adjectives. (Of course, that hasn’t stopped it from heading towards a predicted, box-office-topping $200 million opening weekend.)

However, Batman v. Superman may have given birth to a one-minute cinematic masterpiece: The Sad Affleck meme. Though there are a few variations, the best simply shows the film’s stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in an interview, where the journalist asks them about the film’s “mixed” reviews. As Cavill talks, the frame zooms in on a silent Affleck, and begins playing the melancholy Simon and Garfunkel classic, “Sounds of Silence.”
