Did Suspended Browns Wide Receiver Josh Gordon Fail Yet Another Drug Test?

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon’s name is back in the news again, and unfortunately, it’s not for the reason everyone thought it would be. After sitting out the entire 2015-16 NFL season due to a failed drug test and a series of legal issues, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was expected to reinstate Gordon back into the league this spring. And he still might. But according to a Fox Sports report that emerged yesterday, Gordon may have failed yet another drug test while serving his suspension—and there’s a chance that it could force him to serve yet another suspension.

The NFL hasn’t made any announcement regarding Gordon’s most recent drug test, but Fox Sports spoke with a source who told them that two samples that Gordon provided a drug tester with recently tested positive for both marijuana and dilute. The marijuana levels in the samples were reportedly very low, but the presence of a dilute in a drug test is usually grounds for the league to determine that the test was positive anyway. And a positive test at this point in Gordon’s career could very well end it. The league has already thrown the book at him, so they could take even more drastic measures if the Fox Sports report turns out to be true.

Gordon jumped on Twitter last night to downplay the report, and he seemed to insinuate that it isn’t true.

“Call me if u need a real story worth writing,” he said.

But ESPN is now reporting that the NFL is going to wait at least 60 to 90 days to determine whether or not to reinstate Gordon back into the league. They apparently want to see if any other “red-flag tests” pop up that could raise concerns about Gordon.

Either way, Gordon has clearly painted himself into a corner here. Between this news and the recent news that he is reportedly living with his former teammate Johnny Manziel in California, it’s clear that he’s going to have a long road back to the NFL. Let’s hope he hasn’t blown his final chance with the league.
