Laila Ali Opens Up About The Death Of Her Father, Muhammad Ali

The world is still reeling over news of the passing of Muhammad Ali. The boxing and human rights icon died Friday at age 74 after a long battle against Parkinson’s disease.

Although his death has affected the millions of people around the world who loved and admired him, nowhere is the weight of his absence felt more than with the Ali family. During an appearance Monday morning on the Today show, Muhammad’s daughter, Laila Ali, said she took some solace in knowing her father is no longer suffering. “It was time for him to go. I know he’s in a better place now and he’s talking again and moving again and doing all the things that he couldn’t do in his body,” she said. “I’m happy for that even though I will miss him deeply.”

Muhammad’s funeral will take place Friday at the KFC Yum! Center — a 22,000-seat arena in his hometown of Louisville, KY. The service with also stream live on the Muhammad Ali Center’s website. Former President Bill Clinton, sportscaster Bryant Gumbel and comedian and close friend Billy Crystal will be among those delivering eulogies.
