How Great Is This Story About Michael Jordan Giving Gifts To One Of His Biggest Fans?

Michael Jordan has millions upon millions upon millions of fans all across the entire world. As one of the biggest professional athletes of all time, it comes with the territory. So he’s probably used to all of the fanfare that he receives on a regular basis by now. But something must have felt different when MJ heard about how much a 33-year-old man named Jeffrey Harrison loves him.

Harrison went viral earlier this summer when he was spotted playing pickup basketball in Idaho in a full MJ Bulls uniform. At first, he was the butt of the joke with people poking fun at him for wearing the uniform. But KREM 2 sports director Darnay Tripp did some digging around and discovered that Harrison is developmentally disabled and unable to work. So he spends most of his days watching old YouTube clips of MJ and applying the things he learns in them to his own game. And when Tripp found out about this, he couldn’t help but try and reach out to MJ directly to let him know about Harrison’s story.

Much to everyone’s surprise, MJ responded to Tripp, and within a matter of just a few days, he helped to completely change Harrison’s life. MJ had the Jordan Brand package up a bunch of sneakers and clothing for Harrison, and he also wrote him a letter. Additionally, Jordan personally called Harrison’s mother and left her a voice mail, and eventually, he was able to track down Harrison himself for a phone call. You can watch it all go down in this clip:

In 2016, it’s easy to feel skeptical and pessimistic about the world that we live in, but this story suggests that there are good people in the world and that, yes, dreams really do come true, no matter how cliché it sounds. MJ could have easily ignored KREM 2 and Tripp and let Harrison’s viral star fizzle out just like so many others have in the past. But by reaching out to Harrison, he changed his life forever and made people even more proud to be his fans.
