Do You Have A Problem With Cam Newton Riding A Scooter In Traffic While Recovering From A Concussion?
The Carolina Panthers lost another game on Monday night—this time to the now 2-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers—to fall to 1-4 on the season and to put themselves in a really bad spot when it comes to the postseason picture. The Panthers were picked by many to make a return run to the Super Bowl this season after coming up just short against the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl last season, but so far, they have looked like a shell of the 15-1 team that dominated the league in 2015. And if they don’t pick it up soon—like, really soon—they’re going to be in danger of falling too far behind the NFC South-leading Atlanta Falcons and missing out on the playoffs altogether this year.
The Panthers need to get back to their winning ways, and in order to do that, they’re going to need to get star quarterback Cam Newton back under center. Newton sustained a concussion during the Panthers’ game against the Falcons last Sunday, and he didn’t play on Monday night. And to make matters worse, Newton was spotted on Monday afternoon riding a scooter around in Charlotte, N.C. in traffic without a helmet on. It’s not the first time Newton has been spotted cruising around on his scooter, but seeing as how he’s recovering from a concussion right now, it has more than a few people up in arms. At the very least, it’s a poor decision on his part to take to the streets of Charlotte while recovering from a concussion without a helmet, and at worst, it’s a sign that Newton is not ready to buckle down and do what needs to be done to get his team back on the right track.
Newton riding around on a scooter without a helmet isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the world. He may have only been riding for a few blocks without his helmet, or he may have a perfectly good reason for why he was using his scooter instead of walking or driving to get wherever he was going. But Newton has to know that a photo like the one above reflects poorly on both him and the Panthers. The Panthers are going to have to hit the panic button soon, and Newton doesn’t seem like he’s aware of that. And while him riding around on a scooter probably wouldn’t cause any concern if the Panthers were, say, 4-1, they’re not even close to that. So for the time being, Newton should do himself a favor and put the scooter away. It’ll help him avoid facing even more criticism in the coming weeks.
