Why Does It Seem Like Charles Barkley Goes Out Of His Way To Insult The Warriors?

Charles Barkley gets paid a lot of money to share his opinions on a regular basis. The good thing about that is that he has plenty of opinions to go around. You can ask Barkley for his thoughts on just about anything—from music to sports to food—and chances are, he’ll have a strong take for you. But the bad thing is that, often times, he’s forced to give his opinion on the same subject over and over and over again, and if he just so happens to have an awful take on something, it means that we’re all forced to sit and listen to him try and argue an unpopular point all the time.

This is what has happened with Barkley and the Golden State Warriors. Back in 2014, he said that he didn’t think the Warriors would ever win an NBA title because of how many jump shots they take during games. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and the rest of the Warriors proved him wrong by going out and winning the championship in 2015, but that unfortunately hasn’t shut Barkley up. He did briefly admit that he was wrong at the start of the 2015-16 NBA season, but he has been one of the biggest critics of the Warriors and predicted that they would not win a second straight title last season because of all the jump shots they take. And because he was right, he has continued to criticize Golden State this offseason, even though they added Kevin Durant to their roster and are likely going to be back in the NBA Finals this season.

While speaking with reporters at a luncheon on Tuesday, Barkley said that he isn’t sold on the Warriors’ current team and doesn’t think they’ll be able to win a title with Durant. “I just don’t think you can win a championship shooting jumpers,” he said. And while he’s certainly entitled to his opinion, Barkley is starting to sound like a broken record with his criticisms of the Warriors.

Barkley is certainly not the only NBA analyst to suggest that the Warriors could struggle during the upcoming season because of the changes they made in the offseason. They aren’t simply going to be able to plug Durant into the lineup and win 73 games again like they did last season. But doesn’t it feel like Barkley goes out of his way at this point to find problems with the Warriors? It’s almost as if he has a vendetta against them.

Maybe Barkley will end up being right about this year’s Warriors team. Maybe they will shoot too many jumpers to take home a second title in three years. But if they’re able to win another championship, Barkley should retire the “they shoot too many jumpers” argument. Because while he may get paid to share his opinions, this is one that he has shared one too many times.
