SNL Is Heartbreaking And Sharp In First Post-Election Episode

Who knew what Saturday Night Live was going to do this week? After a year of preparing for a Hillary Clinton presidency, and months of mocking Donald Trump‘s unthinkable behavior (after previously accommodating him), the late night stalwart had to confront the reality of President Trump.

Like many comedians, SNL decided that this situation was too fresh and threatening to be funny yet. Also acknowledging the death this week of songwriter Leonard Cohen, the show opened with Kate MacKinnon as Hillary Clinton, singing Cohen’s elegiac “Hallelujah,” and urging the audience not to give up.

Watch the whole show. Watch Dave Chappelle‘s scathing monologue, and the first sketch mocking white liberal obliviousness, and A Tribe Called Quest arriving to sing “We The People” just when we need them.
