Trump Demands Apology For Pence “Harassment” at Hamilton
Vice President-elect Mike Pence attended a performance of Hamilton on Broadway last night, and got more than the usual show. The cast remained onstage after taking their bows to delivery comments just for the guest of honor. And now, President-elect Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to demand an apology.
Lead cast member Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Vice President Aaron Burr, delivered the speech:
“Vice President-elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us here at ‘Hamilton: An American Musical.’ We really do. We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us. All of us.”
The New York Times reports that the statement was written by the show’s creator and former star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, and lead producer Jeffrey Seller, with input from cast members. Several videos have been posted to social media of the speech:
