Do You Have A Problem With LeBron James & The Cavaliers Playing The Water-Bottle Challenge During A Game?
LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers destroyed the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. The Cavaliers beat the Knicks 126-94 at Madison Square Garden to advance to 15-5 on the season, and they actually led by 30 points or more for the majority of the second half. It got so bad that, at one point at the end of the game, LeBron, Kyrie Irving, Richard Jefferson, and several other Cavs got so bored with the game that they turned to playing the water-bottle challenge to keep themselves entertained.
If you aren’t familiar with the water-bottle challenge, the concept is simple. You take a water bottle that has a little bit of water left in it, hold it at the top, and then attempt to flip it so that it stands up when it hits the ground. Kids from across the country have been playing it for months now and doing all kinds of crazy things with water bottles. So the fact that the Cavaliers were playing it isn’t a surprise, but it was kind of crazy to see them playing it while a game was going. You can watch them playing here:
Some people had a problem with them playing it during the game, especially since, at one point, LeBron had to dive onto the court to retrieve the water bottle they were using. But Irving downplayed it and said the Cavs were just letting loose after a big game. “Oh man, it’s just a social media craze,” he said. “The water bottle is just like—if you land it, you are just like a legend. I was just trying to follow in the kids’ footsteps and really just put my mark on the water-bottle challenge, man. It was awesome. But hey, move on.”
LeBron also downplayed it and said that he was just having fun with his teammates like he always does. “I always have fun,” he said. “The game of basketball is always fun for me. Obviously, when you lose a game, you feel a certain way about it, you think about what you could have done better. But the game of basketball is fun, and for me, once the game—I start showing up and I am not having fun no more, then I won’t be sitting talking to you guys postgame.”
It’d be easy to criticize the Cavs in this instance, but can you blame them for being a little bit bored during a blowout? Irving sticking the landing very well may have been the highlight of the night. Better luck next time, Knicks.
