Ronda Rousey Suffers Shocking Loss in 48 Seconds
In her first fight since her first ever loss, former UFC champ Ronda Rousey suffered a stunning TKO at the hands of reigning champ Amanda Nunes just 48 seconds into the match. It is unclear if this marks the end of Rousey’s fighting career.
Nunes unleashed a barrage of brutal punches from the very start, and Rousey was unable to counter. Within 30 seconds, Rousey’s face was visibly red and bruised. After Nunes landed several combinations that left Rousey staggering and disoriented, the referee ended the fight.
Rousey, an Olympic judo medalist, has now been felled twice by opponents relying on boxing maneuvers, effectively neutralizing Rousey’s grappling and lethal arm bar. Her first loss came at the hands of former professional boxer Holly Holm 13 months ago, shocking the fighting world.
Many point the finger at Rousey’s longtime trainer Edmond Tarverdyan. Rousey’s own mother, former judo champ AnnMaria de Mars, called Tarverdyan an “idiot” and “fraud” after Rousey’s loss to Holm.
