Are Soulja Boy & Chris Brown Really Going To Take Part In A Boxing Match?

When Soulja Boy and Chris Brown started beefing earlier this week—over an Instagram “like,” no less–we couldn’t have predicted that it would eventually cross over into the sports world. Rappers, singers, and other musicians beef all the time, and the various beefs usually just blow over after a few days. The two guys or girls at the center of the beef might say they want to knuckle up and fight, but it never actually comes to fruition and, before long, we all move on to talking about the next beef. It’s just sort of the way it goes.

This Soulja Boy/Chris Brown beef appears to be different. The two men spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday going back and forth on social media and taking shots at one another for a variety of different reasons. Soulja said he would beat up Chris, Chris said he would beat up Soulja, and on and on it went. But late Wednesday, the beef took a turn when Adrien Broner announced that he was going to help arrange a celebrity boxing match between Soulja and Chris. That seemed comical at first, but then, Floyd Mayweather got involved and he, too, said he wanted to set up a fight between the two men through Mayweather Promotions. He created a couple of fight posters for it (as seen above and below) and everything.

And wouldn’t you know? Now it sounds like we have a fight on our hands! Mayweather is apparently going to train Soulja for the fight, and Broner has apparently decided to offer up his services to Chris. The fight will go for three rounds and is scheduled to take place in March sometime. Mayweather is trying to get it on pay-per-view, and it will help Soulja and Chris settle their score once and for all.

The funny thing here is that if the Soulja/Chris fight does take place, it might end up being the most highly-anticipated boxing match of 2017. At least as far as casual boxing fans are concerned. Most people aren’t willing to fork over their hard-earned money for any boxing matches these days, but for Soulja/Chris? Well, that’s going to be must-see TV. It will likely attract the kind of attention that Mayweather’s fight with Manny Pacquiao did back in 2015.

Of course, there’s a chance that the fight won’t actually happen. There’s still a lot of time between now and March, and for all we know, Soulja and Chris could make up by then. Or they could run into one another at some point and stage their fight much sooner in a much less official capacity. But the fact that their beef has reached this stage is both weird and fascinating.

Do you think they will actually take part in a boxing match this year and will you order it, or do you think they’re both just bluffing and will ultimately refuse to fight one another? Either way, it’s clear that this beef is unlike just about any other beef we’ve ever seen.
