Hulu has released the first teaser for The Handmaid’s Tale, and boy, it looks intense. Based on the dystopian speculative fiction novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale stars Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) and will comprise 10 episodes.

Set in a near-future New England following a violent takeover of the US by an authoritarian theocratic regime, The Handmaid’s Tale is narrated by Offred, a “handmaid.” Due to critically declining birthrates and sterility, fertile women like Offred are enslaved and forced to procreate.

The novel has been incredibly popular since its first publication in 1985, especially among feminists, science fiction fans, and feminist science fiction fans. But the election of Donald Trump has renewed fears of the political, religious, and sexual subjugation of women, creating an entirely different atmosphere around the adaptation’s premiere.

The series also stars Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black), Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), and Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love).
