Where Did Derrick Rose Disappear To Before The Knicks Most Recent Game?

Derrick Rose was missing for a brief period of time during the Knicks game against the Pelicans on Monday night. And we don’t mean “missing” in a figurative sense. We’re not trying to say that he could have played better or done more to make his presence felt. We mean that he was literally missing—and that no one knew where he was. It was a scary time for many Knicks fans and for those who have watched D-Rose play throughout the course of his NBA career.

Rose was, by all accounts, present at a shootaround that the Knicks held on Monday morning. Several of his teammates told reporters that he was with the team like normal and that nothing was out of the ordinary. But right before the Knicks/Pelicans game tipped off, the Knicks revealed that Rose wouldn’t be playing in the game. And before long, reports emerged from ESPN and Yahoo! Sports indicating that the Knicks didn’t have any idea where Rose was. He hadn’t called to say he wouldn’t be at the game, and none of the people in the Knicks’ front office knew where to find him.

At one point, the Knicks were apparently so spooked by this that they sent a team employee to Rose’s apartment to try and find him. That employee was unable to locate Rose, though, so the mystery continued. It went on until finally–finally—Rose texted his teammate Joakim Noah and eventually reached out to the team to tell him about where he was. He reportedly said he was in Chicago dealing with a family issue of some kind.

As of right now, that’s all the information that has been provided by anyone, and the Knicks have kept quiet about where Rose was and what he was doing. Fortunately, Rose was back in the building prior to a practice on Tuesday morning, and the team revealed that he will play on Wednesday during the team’s game against the 76ers. So that should silence those who have suggested that Rose may have decided not to attend the game against the Pelicans because he’s not happy with playing in New York.

Whatever the case, Rose is clearly going through something at the moment, and it’s turned into one of the stranger storylines of the 2016-17 NBA season. Let’s hope Rose is OK and that whatever is happening with him works itself out soon. For now, we’re glad it appears as though this story will have a somewhat happy ending and conclude with Rose getting back on the court for the Knicks.
