Melissa McCarthy Turns In Virtuoso Performance As Sean Spicer on SNL
Melissa McCarthy‘s first appearance as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Saturday Night Live was hilarious, but her virtuosic second appearance proved that this was no well-timed political novelty. McCarthy cranks it up to 11 and keeps it there from the very first moment, never missing a better or fumbling a line as the blustering, belligerent, clueless “Spicey” — even when she was whipping a foot over her head.
SNL‘s writers, props, and even graphics department deserve equal praise. They kept up a non-stop barrage of sight gags and prop humor, including some very involved pieces.
The week was full of political humor, thanks to host Alec Baldwin bringing the Trump impersonation he has done since the beginning of this season. There was also a memorable, Fatal Attraction-inspired short about Jake Tapper and Kellyanne Conway, Leslie Jones auditioning to play Trump, and Kate McKinnon playing Conway, Jeff Sessions, and Elizabeth Warren.
