Erin Moran, the actress best known for Happy Days and its briefly-lived spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi, has died at age 56.

Moran was just 13 when she joined Happy Days. She played Joanie Cunningham, the outspoken younger sister of main character Richie Cunningham, played by Ron Howard. Joanie could often be seen on-screen lamenting her parents rules or her brother’s friends. The character’s romance with The Fonz’s (Henry Winkler) younger cousin Chachi (Scott Baio) became its own series for a single season.

“What happened with all of us was like we were this family,” she told Xfinity in 2009. “It was so surreal with all the cast members. … They were my family, get it?”

Moran never achieved the same level of success after Happy Days. In recent years, she reportedly struggled with drinking and homelessness.

“OH Erin… now you will finally have the peace you wanted so badly here on earth,” Winkler tweeted Saturday. “Rest In It serenely now.. too soon.”
