Stephen King‘s classic Firestarter is getting the remake treatment!

The original film was released in 1984, and is based on King’s 1980 novel of the same name. The plot concerns a young girl who develops pyrokinesis and the secret government agency known as The Shop which seeks to control her. The film was directed by Mark L. Lester, and starred David Keith, Drew Barrymore, Martin Sheen and George C. Scott. It was the first film shot in hometown of Wilmington, NC.

The new film will be helmed by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman with some of the same players from the original version, including Universal Studios and executive producer Martha de Laurentiis, involved in the film’s production.
