Samantha Bee‘s scathing and hilarious Not the White House Correspondents Dinner had a special guest last night: “43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush,” aka Will Ferrell.

“How ya like me now?” taunted Ferrell-as-Bush, before launching into a bit about how history had been surprisingly kind to him.

It is likely his first public performance in character as the former president since the election of Donald Trump. Ferrell last appeared on TV as Bush in December 2015 in a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live. In the cold open sketch, Bush joked about the field of GOP candidates, saying that it was “a pretty good plot twist that [he] turned out to be the smart one” compared to Jeb, and laughing convulsively at a photo of Trump.

The evening featured plenty of highlights, from Bee’s monologues and roasts, to live performances by Peaches, to a press briefing by The West Wing‘s own Allison Janney (probably avoiding the name CJ Cregg for trademark reasons).
