Summer Sensations 2010: Outasight

Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, Outasight (born Richard Andrew) was brought up by a mother who decorated the walls with records and a guitar playing father. Constantly moving from apartment to apartment never gave him a true sense of home, but Outasight always found comfort in music.

Whether it was fronting bands at such hollowed venues as the Knitting Factory and CBGB’s, or citing spoken word at the Nuyorican Cafe and the Bowery Poetry Club, Outasight has always loved the stage. A once regular at drum and bass parties, it was at these parties where he really began to utilize both rapping and singing together.

After his first release Employee of the Month in 2007 he released his second promotional CD, titled Radio New York, in June 2008. This release saw more commercial success, and was featured in XXL magazine’s Soundcheck section. His music video for the song “Good Evening (Dream Big)” received a video rotation spot on mtvU in the fall, after winning the 2008 mtvU Freshmen video contest.

In October 2009, Outasight signed with Warner Bros Records under Asylum Records. In December 2009, the clothing brand LRG sponsored the release of Outasight’s critically acclaimed Further mixtape, his biggest release to date. The album has generated over 120,000 downloads since its release and has been featured in major media outlets, such as MTV News. On March 23 this year Outasight released the Further EP on Asylum, and plans to release his first full length studio album From Here To Eternity in the fall.
